Your Activity
Weave Your Own Traditional Balinese Hat from Natural Leaves
Meet Ruby, a farmer from Pemanis Village who will be your teacher for this hands-on workshop. Discover the art of traditional hat weaving using natural leaves, learning techniques passed down through generations. Not only will you create a functional and beautiful rice hat, but you’ll also gain a deeper appreciation for Balinese craftsmanship while connecting with Ruby’s stories of life in the village.
Trek Through Rice Fields & Visit Pemanis' Ancient Temple
Join Mr. Bakti Wiyasa, a talented Balinese painter, as he takes you on a journey through the lush rice fields of Pemanis Village. Learn about Bali’s ancient irrigation system, Subak, and its vital role in the community. Along the way, you’ll visit a historic 13th-century temple, where you’ll explore its spiritual significance and role in local purification rituals. The trek concludes at Pak Bakti’s Balinese home, where you’ll experience the warmth of Balinese hospitality.
Create and Savor Lak-Lak: A Traditional Balinese Dessert
Meet Bu Mangku, a local priest and culinary expert, who will show you how to make Lak-Lak, Bali’s traditional rice cake. This dish, once a staple breakfast for farmers, is prepared from scratch using traditional methods like grinding rice and cooking over a wood-fired stove. End the session by enjoying your freshly made Lak-Lak with palm sugar syrup, while Bu Mangku shares stories of Bali’s culinary heritage and its deep connection to the land.

Our Effort for Sustainable Tourism

About the Community You’re Supporting
Meet the artists, Pak Mardika and a local dancer, from Banjar Keliki Kawan, Payangan, who are dedicated to preserving and sharing Balinese artistic traditions. By joining, you directly support their efforts to sustain their craft and enable them to offer free weekly dance classes for the village’s children. Your participation helps keep these traditions alive, empowering the next generation to connect with Bali’s rich cultural heritage while supporting the local community. Together, we’re helping to create a sustainable future for both the artists and the children they inspire.
Using Tourism to Empower Communities
Bali’s 80% source of income, tourism, is undergoing a transformation. While modern attractions overshadow traditional values, our mission is to use Bali’s main industry to preserve it’s cultural heritage and empowering local communities. Through our trips, travelers immerse in authentic experiences, while a portion of the proceeds is reinvested to sustain these traditions and uplift the community.

We spent the weekend joining the Impact Trip Canang Sari Making Class and the Melukat ceremony at Tirta Empul. It was a very interesting and meaningful experience, a real chance to learn about Balinese culture. Everything was well organized from start to finish, and the team guided us clearly through each part of the experience. We also enjoyed meeting other nomads who are just as interested in local culture as we are. Overall it was a wonderful and memorable day! We would definitely recommend it to others!![]()

I had an amazing experience with Made and Mr. Mardika. I met them for a fire ceremony and meditation in Kelusa village, called Homa Yadnya in balinese culture. The priest, Mr Mardika, hold the ceremony and shared many insights from his culture. Made accompanied me throughout the ceremony and translated as we went along. The sharing was really enriching and authentic, I loved it and will come back with pleasure :-)![]()

So glad Nomads Giving Back exists, to give us a way to connect with others who want to be givers and not takers. I enjoyed the get-togethers, getting to know other difference makers, and I love it that this gives me a way to volunteer at the same time I'm spending time with people I admire. Great concept, great team.![]()

What a great community to hang out with! My initial goal was to meet new people (both locals and foreigners), and do activities together, so I started attending their Cultural Game Nights in Canggu, which are always a lot of fun. As adults, we sometimes take ourselves too seriously and forget to be playful, so those evenings are a great way of bringing back the fun after a busy week! I’ve also joined one of their Impact Trips. I wanted to learn more about Bali’s culture and traditions, and travel a little off the beaten paths, where no traditional tour agency or guide would ever take me. I was lucky to share meaningful moments with a local family who taught me how to craft Balinese offerings in a remote village. I really loved the concept of traveling beyond the sole purpose of visiting places, and of giving part of the proceeds to a family in need. I find any experience so much more valuable when it has meaning and purpose! And if that weren't enough, I’ve also attended one of their online Masterminds, which was a great way for me to connect with fellow digital nomads/entrepreneurs and get support and feedback on my work. Nomads Giving Back offers connections and experiences across the board, from tourism, to entertainment, to entrepreneurship. And to top it all off, the team members are super friendly, fun, and kind. Thank you so much guys for all you do. See you soon!![]()
