The Rhythm of Rattan: Learn to play Balinese Bamboo Xylophone and Weaving Rattan Workshop

Overview

Experience the rhythm and craft of Bali in one inspiring day. You’ll learn to play rindik, Bali’s bamboo xylophone, with a young local musician, and create your own handcrafted rattan lamp guided by village artisans. It’s hands-on, personal, and made for travelers who want more than just watching, you’ll experiencing it.

*We’ll confirm with you 3 days in advance. If there’s only 1 participant overall, we’ll unfortunately have to cancel—but don’t worry, we’ll either reschedule or offer a full refund or credit for a future experience.

We’ll inform you 1 day in advance about the pick-up times, since it may change if only one participant joins from a pick-up spot, as routes might be changed.

Your Activity

Rindik Learning Class

Your day begins in the quiet village of Tengkulak Kaja, you’ll meet Komang Ali, a passionate young musician dedicated to preserving Bali’s traditional rindik music. He’ll share the history and meaning behind this bamboo instrument. Then, it’s your turn. You’ll learn the notes, the rhythm, and by the end, you’ll be able to play a short piece of music yourself.

Next, we head to Batuan Village, home to Ibu Koming, a master artisan who’s turned rattan weaving into her life’s craft. She’ll walk you through the stories and traditions behind rattan in Bali before guiding you step-by-step to make your own mini rattan lamp. No experience needed, just curiosity and your hands. You’ll take your handmade piece home as a reminder of the day you learned to craft like a local.
